Year Book Australia, 2005. Feature Article: Same-sex couple families

- Australian Bureau of Statistics (2007)

Details

This ABS Year Book special article reports on the number of Australian women identifying as being part of a same-sex attracted defacto couple during census data collection. The data includes numbers of same-sex attracted couples, changes in self-identification between the 1996 and 2001 census, aged distribution of partners, whether the couples have children and the number of children, whether the partners have ever been part of a registered marriage and whether they have ever been divorced. (It should be noted that while the ABS collects data on women identifying as being part of a same-sex attracted defacto couple, the regular published ABS statistical catalogues report these same-sex attracted couples within the general defacto or social marriage classification along with heterosexual defacto couples. However, ABS same-sex attracted specific data can be requested directly from the ABS).
