This data includes the number of Victorian women with diagnosed diabetes mellitus. Data reported in the National Health Survey: Summary of Results, 2007-08 (ABS cat. This report presents the most up-to-date estimates of the number of people with diagnosed diabetes in Australia based on self-reports to the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ 2007–08 National Health Survey. 44% of those diagnosed with diabetes were female. About 96% of people with diabetes were 35 years old or more, and 43% were aged 65 years or more. The proportion of people with diabetes was similar in all states and territories, after accounting for differences in age. After accounting for differences in age, the proportion of people with diabetes was similar in major cities, regional areas and remote areas.  Further Info

The survey includes the prevalence of diagnosed diabetes for Victorian women by age group. The prevalence rates are compared to previous years in a time series (2005-2008). Data also includes the number of women who have had their glucose levels checked in the previous two years by age group. As the feet of diabetics are prone to infection, delayed healing and nerve damage, the survey includes data for Victorian women relating to the frequency of their own foot care.  Further Info

This website allows users to build their own report using data from the Victorian Admitted Episodes Database. It provides data on Victorian women with ambulatory care sensitive conditions, including diabetes complications. This includes the number of admissions, standardised rate per 1,000 persons, and average bed days. Users can build the report using a range of geographical settings, including LGA, PCP, and health region. Data is also available based on ARIA score and the SEIFA categories of relative socioeconomic advantage and disadvantage, economic resources, education and occupation. Data is available for the period 2000-01 until 2008-09.
